Women in the spotlight — then and now
Women Have Always Taken the Leading Role
On Monte Isola, as early as 1400,
there is archaeological evidence proving the existence of skilled craftsmanship
in the production of navigation nets and ropes.
At the time, not only fishing but also hunting using nets and ropes was practiced, and the heart of Monte Isola was one of the largest production and export hubs on the entire continent.
The leading figures in these activities were mainly women.
In the world of peasants before the Middle Ages and the Industrial Revolution,
something that was hardly ever valued,
the birth of a woman was considered a true blessing on Monte Isola.
With quick and skillful hands, they could weave nets and ropes of every kind far faster than men, and with superior quality.
This tradition is still honored today by L4K3, and most of the people in charge of both company management and manufacturing
are women. The goal of L4K3 is to work together exclusively with professional artisans from the Lake Iseo area
and to give the world of women
economic independence and value.
